Eight-year-old Tazne Van Wyk went missing on 7th February 2020. Two weeks later she was found dead in a stormwater pipe outside Worcester.

Moyhdian Pangkaeker (56-years-old) has been declared guilty of the kidnapping, rape and killing of the eight-year-old on Wednesday the 26 October 2022, in the Western Cape High Court. The accused has been convicted on 21 of 27 charges against him. The 56-year-old’s DNA was found under Tazne’s nails and many assume that she was fighting for her life.

Pangkaeker was arrested on 17 February 2020 in Cradock, Eastern Cape. The 56-year-old told the police to look for his ex-wife in her back yard, she was found dead in a cardboard wrapped with a carpet. He was found guilty of multiple rape charges against him, including his daughter who he impregnated and others who he forcibly committed incest with.

“He knew Tazné was dead, he knew that because he was the killer. The only person who could have killed Tazné was the accused. He lured her away from her home and kidnapped her.” Said Judge Alan Maher. According to Mail & Guardian “Maher read out loud the brutal and violent manner in which Tazné was raped and said the only reason the accused kidnapped the eight-year-old was for “sexual gratification” as seen in his pattern of targeting young girls.”

Tazne’s mother Carmen Van Wyk said that she had a difficult time being in court, listening to the wicked crimes her daughter’s killer committed. “I do not have much to say. It wasn’t an easy time. We just want justice to prevail.” Said Van Wyk.

The sentencing of Pangkaeker will be next year, 16 January 2023.
